Hi everyone!
The Intro to Atoms class that I taught was a HUGE success!
From the beginning, my goal was to help the world, in addition to teaching science to kids. When I taught my class on atomic structure, this idea finally manifested! My students reported they learned a lot and enjoyed the class. With the proceeds from the class, I was able to donate fresh produce (including eggs, milk, beans, rice, oranges, potatoes, broccoli, and many others) to a small food storage bank called the Somerville Community Fridge in two consecutive shopping trips. The Somerville Community Fridge is an outdoor food pantry with a refrigerator. People can stop by and get food for free, giving them access to high-quality fresh produce which they may not have been able to obtain otherwise. Part of why I felt that this was so important was that I wanted to help the world by giving good food and nutrition to people who would usually not be able to afford it. This was always an issue, but it became especially pertinent during the coronavirus pandemic.
